My first trip to the Dominican was March of 2015, after Alex passed away. We went because we found a sheet of paper where Alex had written her goals in 2013…her first goals was “take my parents to the DR and show them the beauty of the people”. What started as a journey to honour Alex morphed into a healing journey for me. When I’m in the DR I feel the closest to my daughter. In part because I allow the feelings to come. People remember her and love what she stood for. It’s a place where I know there is a need (just as there is a need in many places) but the difference is that I can see where our fundraising and our efforts are making a substantial and real difference. I don’t ever wonder where the money goes. I know where it goes. It’s been such an honour to build houses in Alex’s name and I thank you for all the support and encouragement. Consider coming with me on a build. It’s life changing…I promise.
