We are in the process of fundraising for a group of 36 Oak Bay High School students who will be journeying to Vicente Guerrero, Baja, Mexico to participate in the Live Different program during Spring Break 2020. Live Different. is a registered charity in Canada. They provide opportunities for high school students to participate in humanitarian relief projects by bringing practical assistance to those living in extreme poverty. The goal of this trip is to develop the students’ leadership skills, while allowing them to see first hand how two-thirds of the world lives, and to give them the opportunity to really make a difference and become educators on world poverty by sharing their experiences back at home.
Funds raised will be assisting our 2020 Spring Break trip, where the students will be building two homes for two impoverished families. Each house costs $7,500, which means a minimum of $15, 000 must be raised to pay for the supplies. This does not include the individual costs of each student, or household furnishings for the families. We are aiming to raise $30,000 for building materials and furnishings for our two families, and any extra funds will go towards other projects in the area we are working.
Last year was our fifth experience with Live Different and every one of the thirty-six participants described the adventure as “life-changing”. Thank you very much for your time and attention to our cause and we hope to hear from you soon!
